Poem, 13 October 2018.
Happiness is:
When you wake up
On a beautiful Saturday morning
To blue skies and birdsong
And sounds of water running into the fields
When you wander around the house
Barefoot and relaxed
Watering the plants, smelling the flowers
And putting things just so
When you walk your dog and see him frolic
With the super-friendly dog next door
And catch the warm smile
From the woman down the street
as she heads to the temple around the corner
When you have a rejuvenating shower
That startles and opens up all your pores
And leaves you feeling fresh and clean
A newly minted being ready for the day
When you notice the homing dove
Is still parked on your parapet
Pensively pondering the break of dawn
And flutters down to quench her thirst
From the rainwater left on the steps
When you see your sweet beagle
Cuddled up in the coolest corner of the bathroom
And hear him sighing heavily
In deep restful sleep
When you walk into the bedroom
And quietly observe the two people
You love and cherish most in the world
Curled up safely and peacefully on your bed
In uninhibited abandoned slumber
When you sit down on the cool floor tiles
Back resting against the brilliant green gym mattress
And listen to the purring of the ancient fan
As you pen this note
On a fresh new writing pad filled with promise.
